With a professional background based in geography, marine biology and ocean related issues, Henrique launched seaExpert company in 2003, in Faial- Açores. Since then, he has been developing several activities as the company’s CEO, specially focused on fisheries, marine resources management and fishing observers’ coaching.
He is naturally passionate about the ocean, its conservation and literacy. His proactive and entrepreneurial spirit inspires and motivates a multidisciplinary team. The common mission is to better support clients in their journey.

During his master’s studies, Artur built a DNA barcode library for red and brown macroalgae reported in Portugal and analyzed their phytochemical profiles. Every sample was wild-harvested in S. Miguel island and the work was done in cooperation with the Biology Department of the University of the Azores. Being an expert on Azorean seaweeds, he works as seaExpert’s commercial director and coordinator of seaweed harvest and supply operations.

Leonardo has an extensive research background in macroalgae aquaculture and marine and environmental biotechnology. Lately, he focused his research on producing macroalgal biomass (freshwater and saltwater) for direct and foreseeable outcomes to different industries (animal and human feed, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, waste water bioremediation and bioenergy).
Leonardo has 29 scientific publications in peer reviewed journals, with about 500 quotations. Currently works as scientific consultant in seaExpert’s seaweed department.

Dazzled by the beauty of the aquatic environment and ecology since he was born, he took his degree in Marine Biology and Biotechnology in Polytechnic Institute of Leiria. While studying there, he developed a strong sense of curiosity for the strong application potential of marine resources, such as algae, in food industry and in industrial products development. Now he is part of seaExpert’s Seaweed Harvesting and Supply team.
