seaExpert is a fisheries consultant company that has its workers and collaborators experience as its work basis. With ground scientific education, its member’s professional experience, mostly acquired inside the Azorean regional context, allow us to have a deep and real knowledge of the fishing world complexity at a technical, administrative, legal and scientific level.
Based in Faial Island, Azores, seaExpert is formed by a group of Marine Biology and Fisheries professionals that guarantee top scientific experience in several matters related to the fishery space. As example, the company has: Island aquaculture development and consulting projects; fishing activities monitoring; study of new fisheries; Geographic Information Systems; scientific cruises; recruitment, training and boarding of fisheries observers; data collection and statystical analysis; stock availability and decision support; high valued sea products commercialization; environmental impact studies; evaluation of structural projects performance, among other activities.
Henrique Ramos, from Lisbon, graduated in Geography and Regional Planning in UNL’s FCSH and always showed his passion and calling for matters related to the Sea, not only in his academic course but also in his professional career. After his work on Lisbon’s IPIMAR, MacAlister, Elliot and Parteners in the NAFO zone, Azores’ IMAR and University of Azores, he chose the way of the entrepreneurship and created seaExpert in 2003. Since then, he has been developing several activities as the company’s CEO, specially focusing on Scientific Fisheries Observers, aquaculture and fish commercialization.
His professional training allows him to have an integrated perspective of the Society and the fisheries matters in particular, managing seaExpert’s multidisciplinary team with success and motivation.
Artur Oliveira, from Guimarães, graduated in Biotechnology Engineering in IPB – Polytechnic Institute of Bragança and took a master degree in Aromatic and Medicinal Plants Biotechnology and Bioentrepreneurship in UM – University of Minho. His master thesis was based on the assemblance of a reference library of DNA barcodes for red and brown macroalgae reported for Portugal and analysis of their phytochemical profiles, work that began inside the University of Azores Biology Department, from where the live samples and data were taken for the thesis conclusion.
Nowadays works as the seaExpert’s coordinator of seaweed harvest and supply.
Andrea Zanella, from Venice, graduated in Maritime Spatial Planning (Erasmus Mundus Master Course on Maritime Spatial Planning) and in Environmental Sciences, specialization in marine and coastal systems (Master degree at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice). His master thesis focused on the design of a network of Marine Protected Areas considering socio-economic activities in the Kattegat Sea and in the evaluation of the management effectiveness in the Natural Marine Reserve of Miramare considering the fishing effort of small-scale fisheries activities. He participated in international projects such as RevFisk Project, Sargasso-eel Project, IMPAQ Project, SERESTO Project and ADRIPLAN Project.
Nowadays works with seaExpert within the ORFISH Project.
Leonardo Mata, from Póvoa de Varzim, graduated in Marine and Fisheries Biology, with a master degree in Aquaculture and PhD in Marine Biotechnology, has an extensive investigation path in macroalgae aquaculture, algae and derivatives production and environmental and marine biotechnology. His interest has always been connected with applied research, with emphasis in macroalgae biomass production (marine and fresh water) for the commercialization of several products from different industries (waste water´s biofiltration, human and animal feeding, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and bioenergy).
Leonardo has 29 scientific papers, published in international journals, with about 500 quotations. Nowadays works as seaweed department consultant in seaExpert.
Alexandra Sousa, from Horta, graduated in Gerontology and took a master degree in Company Business Management in IPB – Polytechnic Institute of Bragança
Nowadays works in seaExpert's management and secretariat area.
Paulo Miranda, from Oiã, graduated in Biology and Geology Teaching and took a master degree in Coastal Zone Sciences in University of Aveiro. He is experienced in scientific investigation related with coastal sediment dynamics and marine sediment resources, resulting in several co-published scientific papers due to his contribution in producing key geographic information. Since 2015, he works for the Regional Government of Azores in Geographic Information Systems.
Nowadays, besides working for the General Directorate of Territory (CrossNature project and INSPIRE data harmonization), Paulo works for seaExpert in the PLASMAR project “Identification and Information Compilation of Coarse Coast Aggregate Zones in the Azorean Autonomous Region”.
